Peach Iced Tea

Peach Iced Tea

The summer drink everyone goes crazy for in Italy: peach iced tea! Did you know that the homemade version is even more delicious? And it’s also so easy to make!

Peach Iced Tea is the symbol of summer in Italy, hot beach days would not be complete without this drink.

My husband loves it so much as it reminds him of his childhood. It was a constant at his home, part of every ‘merenda’ – the Italian afternoon snack. He had a very long week and I wanted to make something special for him this weekend. It’s also crazy hot in London right now, so I needed something that showed I care but without turning on any stoves/ovens! Iced peach tea was just the perfect idea!

It requires a bit of patience, you need to let the tea brew and the fruit infuse the water, but it’s an effortless recipe and the peach tea lasts in the fridge for up to 4 days.

You can also easily adjust the tea to your taste, add more sugar and use frozen berries instead of peaches.

Serve it with lots of ice and a reusable straw, sip it and dream of Italian holidays.

Summer is officially here!

The summer drink everyone goes crazy for in Italy: peach iced tea! Did you know that the homemade version is even more delicious? And it’s also so easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 1.2 l of boiling water

  • 4 tea bags (black tea or earl grey will do)

  • 2 spoons of honey/agave syrup/sugar

  • The juice of a lemon

  • 2 sliced peaches

  • 4 mint leaves

  • Ice

  • Equipment
  • A teapot

  • A jug

Method

  • Put the kettle on and boil the water.
  • Transfer the hot water to a teapot and add four teabags in. Let the tea brew for 10 minutes, then remove the teabags.
  • Dissolve two spoons of honey/agave syrup/sugar and add the juice of a lemon. Make sure only to add the lemon juice now, after the tea has started to cool down.  Adding the lemon when the tea is still hot makes it bitter, so be patient and wait a bit more.
  • Now add the peaches and mint leaves and let the tea rest for at least one hour.
  • Strain the tea and transfer it to a jug. You can store the tea for up to 4 days. Don’t throw away the fruit, either serve it with the drink or enjoy it with some ice cream or yoghurt.
  • Serve the tea in tall glasses with plenty of ice and reusable straws. Enjoy!
